Katie Peters
Sport: Cross Country Skiing
Year Received: 2012
Bio: Katie is one of those skiers who is driven, committed, and gives 100% of herself to whatever she is trying to achieve. As a teammate on the Yukon ski team, she was positive, dependable, and responsible, but still willing to have a snowball fight after a big race. Katie had a great 2011/2012 season. At the 2012 Arctic Winter Games, Katie earned Team Yukon a gold ulu when she breezed into the finish line of the 10 km classic mass start race 30 seconds before Alaska and Yamal’s 2nd and 3rd place finishers. One week following that result, Katie travelled to represent Yukon at the Canadian National Championships, competing against the fastest skiers in the country. Katie finished 4th of 56 skiers in the individual skate, 4th of 57 in the mass start classic, 6th of 57 in the individual classic, and 6th and 7th placings in the Team sprint and individual sprint skate. Her best memory was crossing the finish line first in the B finals… in the slush.
