Annah Hanthorn
Sport: Cross Country Skiing
Year Received: 2014
Bio: Annah Hanthorn started skiing at about age 5, along with her brothers and sisters, on skis that they borrowed from the school in Fort McPherson. Her favourite spot to ski was the shale pit, (one of the only spots with hills) where they would make jumps and dare each other to go down the really steep sections. She had her first race at the Top of the World Loppet at age 5 and has been skiing happily ever since.
Annah, in her second full year of training with the Yukon Ski Team, had excellent results at the National level, earning Gold & Bronze at the Canada Winter Games, 2 medals at the 2015 National Championships and 2 top 5 placing’s at the World Junior Championships trials in Duntroon, Ontario. This earned her a spot on the National Junior Team, which represented Canada at the World Junior Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She earned a 10th place finish in the 4 x 3.3 km women’s relay and 45th in the individual skate race, which is great for a first time at Worlds. She has one of the best progressions of all junior skiers in Canada.
