Wolfpack Basketball Coaches In-Service

Wolfpack is looking at facilitating a free in-service for Basketball Coaches.

  • Inservice Topic: Developing a Deeper Understanding of the Game.

  • Understanding the four-game moments/phases of play;

  • Examining the universal principles within the phases of the game;

  • Reviewing the sub-principles that players/coaches need to master;

  • Identifying the conditions that influence play in each game phase;

  • Reviewing phases within a possession, constructing the game moments, and developing a draft Game Model;

  • Other ideas for applying a game model;

Aboriginal Coaching Module

The Aboriginal Coaching Module is open to coaches of all levels, Indigenous or non-Indigenous, who work with Indigenous athletes. Offered as part of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), this workshop delves into unique Indigenous cultures, values, and lifestyles, equipping coaches with the knowledge and skills to foster inclusive environments for their athletes.

Some key components of the ACM include:

  • Understanding the role of a coach in Indigenous communities

  • Building strong relationships with Indigenous athletes

  • Navigating cultural awareness and sensitivity in coaching

  • Strategies for holistic athlete development, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being

This certificate is mandatory for all coaches interested in being a coach for future North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) events.

The session will be hosted on Sunday, October 6th @ 8:30am – 5:00pm at the Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle office in Whitehorse. If you would like more information, please contact info@yasc.ca.

August 30:

August 31:

1:30 - 2:30 PM (2010-2011)

2:30 - 4 PM (2007-2009)

September 1:

10 - 11:30 AM (2007-2011)

3 - 4:30 PM (2007-2011)

Testing will take about an hour.

The Yukon Rugby Federation will test your strength, speed and aerobic capacity with a variety of tests in the gym and on the field. Testing is necessary for all athletes looking to join the CSG practice squads. This is for Men born in '05 and '06 and Women born in '07 and '08. Some exceptions may be made.

Your future coaches will be out, so you can stop by and ask any questions you have.

National Indigenous Basketball ID Camp

Calling all Aboriginal Basketball athletes and Coaches! YAS thrilled to announce an ID Camp for the upcoming National Indigenous Basketball Camp! This is a fantastic opportunity to identify and select athletes and coaches for a high-performance basketball program being offered by the National Aboriginal Sport Circle.

This opportunity is for 2 male and 2 female athletes, and 2 coaches, male and female!

The mission of the camp is to enhance the representation of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit in high-performance basketball at both provincial/territorial and national levels. It aims to provide top-quality on and off-court experiences for Indigenous youth aged 13-15, helping them develop both as athletes and community leaders.

Muaythai Yukon, with generous support from the City of Whitehorse, Yukon, is bringing Muay Thai seminars to Eight Days Martial Arts!

Led by Sensei Jesse Boldt, a BANG Muay Thai Black Belt and full time instructor at Modern Martial Arts Center in Saskatoon, with 16 years of experience, including professional MMA and Kickboxing, these seminars are open to all adults, regardless of experience level or affiliation.

Dates and Times:

Saturday, August 3rd: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Sunday, August 4th: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Pricing:

One Day: $30 for Eight Days members / $35 for non-members

Birding For Beginners Workshop

Get ready for World Migratory Bird Day (May 11). Free (only 18 places).

10.30 am to 4.45 pm at the Whitehorse Public Library.

Learn the basics of birding from local birder, Glenn Rudman and gain confidence with your note taking, setting up your binoculars, knowing where to look and listen and which species to start with. The workshop will include a couple of outdoor sessions by the Yukon River. Bring your bird identification books/apps and binoculars (if you have them).

The Yukon Rugby Federation is hosting two courses taking place over two days this upcoming May 4-5, 2024.

World Rugby master trainer John Long will be in Whitehorse to facilitate an NCCP Level 1 Rugby Coaching course on May 4th, and a World Rugby 1 Officials course on May 5th from 8:30am-5:30pm.
