Warren Kapaniuk
Team: Archery
Year Received: 2020
Bio: Warren moved to the Yukon in 2000 from Alberta and after being in Watson Lake for 4 years, he and his wife moved to Whitehorse where they started their family. In spring of 2015, Warren's eldest son got into archery and Warren has been coaching ever since. The team has had success over the years, including excellent performances at the Canada Games and has continued to build up to 2020. Even though most events were canceled for 2020, the competition team were able to compete in the Archery Canada Region Indoor Nationals, as well as the Multi-Sites indoor Championship of the Americas (MICA).
At the Canadian Indoor Nationals, the team won 6 medals, including 2 Gold. While competing at the MICA in December, two Yukon archers from the team set Archery Canada records. This was due to hard work and training by all the archers, but obviously from Warren's coaching. Proud to be coaching with the Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle, Warren hopes the success of the sport this past year will help move archery forward and create growth in the Yukon, both recreational and competitively.
