Bio: Tom and Penny became involved with Short Track Speed Skating ten years ago. They saw Speed Skating as a sport their whole family could be involved with,  but they had no idea how involved they would become. Shortly after joining, the existing Coach of the program call it quits.

All of a sudden the sport that they had been having a lot of family enjoyment with, was in trouble. Tom and Penny quickly took the helm, and with very little previous coaching experience, but lots of ambition and tons of drive and organizational skills, they started building a program. In 1998 a rag tag group of kids went to the Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife armed mostly with hockey skates and had a great time but it was apparent were we had to go to get to the level of some of the other jurisdictions. By 2000 at the Games in Whitehorse, Speed Skating won several medals, and in the games since have been the largest generator of medals for the Yukon at the Arctic Winter Games.
