Yukon Football Club United Soccer

Year Received: 2006

Bio: The focus of the YFC United program was to provide a competitive soccer environment year round.  This environment would prepare players in their final two years of high school to compete for spots on college rosters and provide a high quality competitive soccer experience for Under 18 men in those years that the Canada Summer Games were not being hosted.  To this end, the program focused on competing in two major tournaments, a winter and a summer.  The team’s winter tournament was the Alberta Indoor Provincial Championships were they won the bronze medal and secured a tournament record of 2 wins, 1 loss.  The summer tournament was at the Tivoli Cup in Hillerod, Denmark.

The team won the Wiibroe Cup Champions with a tournament record of 3 wins (against Chinese and Danish teams), 1 draw, 1 loss and 4 shut-outs.  It was the first ever European Cup won by a Yukon team.  The team members were also noted how they exemplified the FIFA Spirit of Fair Play, and were constantly remarked on about what great ambassadors they were for our country and our territory.  As well, the team members realize they are mentors and with that come responsibilities, with that they give back to the Yukon soccer system by coaching at weekend camps and providing skill development for younger players.
