Bantam Mustangs Hockey
Year Received: 2016
Bio: The 2014-2015 Bantam Mustangs are the first male minor hockey team to bring home a BC-Hockey championship banner. The Yukon has been sending minor hockey teams to the challenge of the British Columbia play-offs and championships for over 5 decades. Yukon has been close before, but these 2014-2015 Bantam Mustangs were able to break the barrier and bring a provincial championship banner North of 60.
The team’s season record is impressive to say the least. They achieved a seasonal win-loss-tie count of 34-5-6 including opponents from Alaska, Western United States, Northwest Territories, and Western Canada. They won 3 Tournament gold medals resulting from full-sweep win performances, an 80% win record for all games played at the elite Tier 1 and AAA level, a playoff goals-against average of 0.75 led by goaltenders Ethan Vanderklay and Cole Smith,, 5 teammates were invited to the 2015 U-15 & U-16 BC-Best elite showcase and, of course they ended the year as BC provincial Champions after sweeping the final 10 team tournament with 6 straight wins!
