Bio: Darby McIntyre, an athlete from Whitehorse, qualified for the 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Vancouver, B.C., where he earned two silver medals and achieved personal bests in all his events, including the 1500m, 5000m, long jump, and shot put.
In the fall of 2014, Darby was the sole Yukoner selected to represent Canada at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. His selection marked several milestones: he became the youngest Yukoner to qualify for Special Olympics Team Canada and the first Yukoner chosen for the Special Olympics Team Canada Summer Games since 1991. His hard work paid off with a gold medal in the 5000m and a bronze in the 1500m, setting personal bests in both events.
