Bio: Jeane Lassen, a weightlifter from Whitehorse, is the first female athlete from Yukon to compete at the Olympic Summer Games. In 2006, she won gold in the 69kg category at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, setting a Commonwealth Games record by lifting 132kg in the clean and jerk.
Jeane made her Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, where she finished fifth in the 75kg category. In 2006, she became the first Canadian woman in 17 years to win a world championship medal in weightlifting, taking bronze in the 69kg event. She is a 15-time medalist at the World University Championships and a 10-time medalist at the Pan American Championships.
Jeane continued to contribute to the sport by coaching at the London 2012 Olympics and mentoring at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. She is a member of the Canada Games Council and has been inducted into the Yukon Sports Hall of Fame.
