Mary Binstead

Organization: Snowboard Yukon

Bio: Mary was one of the founders and the main proponent behind getting Snowboard Yukon started in 2005. She has been a driving force for snowboarding in the territory ever since.  

She has held numerous titles within the organization including President, Coach, Coach Trainer, Official and her current role of Technical Director. That does not do it justice because she has always done way more than her title suggests.

Her early work involved working to establish Snowboard Yukon as Territorial Sports Organization. She then worked tirelessly to get snowboarding programming off the ground by coaching and training other coaches, as well as finding and organizing volunteers for our events and serving on the Board.

After so many contributions, it would be easy to slow down a bit, but 2023 was arguably one Mary’s busiest with Snowboard Yukon. In her role as Technical Director, she managed our coaches and set up the overall training and budget for all our programs, Shredders, Freeriders and Comp Team. She organized and set up the Selection Committees for AWG and CWG. She even attended two of our outside training sessions as a Coach. Of particular note this year, Mary was the key Snowboard Yukon representative which helped to bring the upcoming Para World Cup to Whitehorse.
