Year Received: 2023
Bio: Don Wilson has been a Canadian Ski Patrol member for the past 30 years, and has made a significant, and positive contribution to the Yukon Zone.
In 1993, when Mount Sima opened, Don took on the role of establishing the new patrol. He trained all the new patrollers, and was the 1st Alpine Patrol Leader and On-Hill Training Officer. For this extraordinary contribution, Don was awarded Appreciation Awards for his Zone, the Division, and finally the Nation in the mid 1990’s.
Among an array of additional awards, stands out the Canadian Ski Patroller Award, which he won in 2007, which is the highest operational award a ski patroller can receive. In 2009, Don was presented with a Life Member Award by Yukon Zone, only the second such award to be issued in the history of the Zone.
Don’s efforts don’t stop at the hill. He commits many hours volunteering for local events like the Klondike Road Relay, Whitehorse triathlon, and adding to the success of our 2007 Canada Winter Games, by recruiting 32 much needed patrollers.
Don’s long term commitment is rare. He is the longest serving active member of the Yukon Zone, and yet remains one of the most committed patrollers. Don is THE role model by which other patrollers hope to aspire in his positive attitude, patrolling skills, gregarious nature, and ability to represent the ideal image of the Canadian Ski Patrol System.
