WHITEHORSE – On Saturday the Koltun and Baldwin rinks played to a split decision with one win apiece. The key shot in game one occurred in the 8th end when Sarah Koltun was looking at three of Baldwin’s rocks in scoring position without the hammer and made a perfect freeze on the shot rock. Nicole Baldwin attempted to blast the rock out but could only move it to the 8 foot and ended up taking 1 to tie the game. The Koltun rink went on to score one in the 9th and a steel of 1 in the 10th end to seal the win with a score of 6 to 4.

The afternoon game was controlled by the Baldwin rink who were up 5 to 2 after 5 ends. They failed to make a tough double in the 7th end for four, but were successful in the 8th making a similar double for four, which led to handshakes as they won handily 9 to 3.

On Sunday afternoon the Baldwin rink were rock solid through the first five ends leading at the fifth end break by a score of 4 to 0. The Koltun rink made a game of it early in the second half closing the gap to 5 to 3 through 8 ends. That was as close as it got as the Baldwin rink scored 1 in 9 and ran the Koltun rink out of rocks in the final end to win 6 to 3.

Playing on the Baldwin rink were lead Rhonda Horte, second Helen Strong, third Ladene Shaw and skip Nicole Baldwin. On the Koltun rink were lead Andrea Sinclair, second Patty Wallingham, third Chelsea Duncan and skip Sarah Koltun.

Both rinks will head to Yellowknife for the YT/NWT Championship, which will take place January 3rd through 6th. The winner will represent the Territories at the Scotties, in Montreal on February 1st to 9th, 2014.

Next up on the Yukon Curling Calendar is the Yukon Junior Championships both Boys and Girls divisions competing. The action starts with draws at 10 AM and 3 PM Saturday December 21st at the Whitehorse Curling Club.
