Marg and Don White were inducted into the Yukon Sport Hall of Fame for their outstanding contributions to a variety of sports in the Yukon, including Athletics, Cross Country Skiing and Curling.
They are exceptional volunteers who have given countless hours of their time to organize, coach or officiate, and generally lend their enthusiasm. They have even been known to open their home to ensure an athlete has the chance to continue on in his or her sport.
Since 1986, both Marg and Don have been mainstays of the Yukon running scene. Don has achieved his NCCP Level III Coaching certificate, and has coached many young and mature athletes at the local and national levels. Don is himself an athlete as a National Level Master’s Runner, which also enhances his skill and credibility as a coach. Don has also been a coach for a number of AWG Snowshoeing teams, and volunteers as a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol.
Marg has been timing running events in the Yukon since 1986 and, rain or shine, times events from early spring right through to the Klondike Road Relay in September. Marg’s encouragement and smile at the end of a race has been a welcome sight for many Yukon runners.
Marg has been involved in Yukon Curling in a variety of capacities since 1980. She has achieved her NCCP Level IV Officiating certification and is now the Yukon Curling Association’s Head Official. She is even called upon to officiate at a National Level and volunteers at events such as the Scott Tournament of Hearts. Marg has been a member of the Sport Yukon Board of Directors since 1990 and is always an integral volunteer when the Yukon hosts a Major Games such as the Arctic Winter Games or the upcoming Canada Winter Games.
Marg and Don White have shown great commitment to Yukon sport over the past two decades and have made very valuable contributions to our community and to many families. We believe that sport can bring families together in many positive ways, and we are pleased to induct into our Hall of Fame a couple who embody this principle.
