2014 ARCTIC WINTER GAMES LEGACY CAULDRON DEDICATION

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Fairbanks 2014 Arctic Winter Games Host Society will hold a dedication ceremony for the 2014 Arctic Winter Games Legacy Cauldron on October 4, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The 2014 Arctic Winter Games Legacy Cauldron was built in partnership with the Tanana Valley Youth Sports Foundation, Arctic Star donors and the generous donation of labor and materials from local design, engineering and construction firms. “This Cauldron celebrates youth sports at the Games and will continue to inspire our young athletes well into the future,” said Tanana Valley Youth Sports Foundation Board President, Kent Karns. The Cauldron will be lit with flames and LED lights during the Games and used as a legacy monument after the Games are over.

The permanent structure is located in the front of the Carlson Center, visible to drivers along First Avenue. Made possible in part from donations from the Arctic Stars, a group of supporters who are passionate and committed to providing life-changing experiences for youth in the circumpolar North through athletic competition and cultural exchange, the Cauldron will include their names on commemorative plaques.

The groundbreaking for the Cauldron took place on July 1, 2013 for the 26-foot tall weathered steel and gas torch and was designed locally by Bettisworth North, Castner Consulting, Design Alaska, PDC, Inc. Engineers, Shannon and Wilson, Inc. and Marshall Arts Design.

“This Cauldron is a monument our community can be proud of.  It demonstrates our commitment to our youth and their endeavors for personal and athletic excellence,” said Fairbanks 2014 Arctic Winter Games Host Society President, Jeff Jacobson. “It will commemorate Fairbanks’ legacy as a host city for three Games in 1982, 1988, and 2014.”
